Here’s a chance to experience two of Kenya’s most special parks, off the beaten trail. Ol Pejeta is dense with predators but also offers views of less-seen endangered, species.
Samburu hosts hundreds of elephants and also unique varieties like Grevy’s zebra, Beisa onyx, and plenty of birdlife. Both are relatively close to Nairobi for a comfortable, easy-paced African safari.

Breakfast at 0730, depart by 0800 for Sweetwaters, we drive we drive north into plush Kikuyu farmlands watching the landscape alternate from rolling green hills to never ending plains. Brief rest halt at Nanyuki Equator Point. Arrive at Sweetwaters at 1130. Check in. time at leisure, lunch at 1230, afternoon game drive at 1530, visit the chimp sanctuary and Morani, the tame rhino. The Sanctuary is home to the endangered Chimpanzee species, many are babies and orphans rescued from Central African countries where the trade in bush meat (meat from chimps killed by illegal forest loggers and sold to unsuspecting customers). Dinner and overnight stay at Simba hotel in Nanyuki.
After Morning breakfast depart by 0930 for Samburu, we drive into the scenic Lewa Downs area. Past Isiolo town, you enter the last frontier, the landscape changes form rolling green hills and plains to semi arid savannah. Dinner and overnight stay at Umoja Camp North of Kenya’s capital Nairobi, the reserve is in the semi arid part of this country and also home to the Samburu tribes people, the fearless cousins of the Masai. The Samburu people are known for crossing the crocodile infested Uaso Nyiro river which meanders through the reserve with inherent ease. A unique vista of rounded rugged hills and undulating plains are offered by the reserve. The mix of wood and grassland with riverine forest and swamp is home to lions, elephants, antelopes, hartbeasts, buffaloes, reticulated giraffe, grevy's zebra, leopard, Somali ostrich, hippo, crocodile, gerenuk, hyena and other plains game. The park is also a bird watchers paradise, there are over 600 species of birds, most with habitats on or around the river. Most lodges are situated on the river bank giving the guest the best of the plant, animal and bird life.
After breakfast morning and afternoon game viewing drive in the Samburu game reserve. The surrounding terrain is renowned for rare game, -long necked gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and the Beisa Oryx. Leopard is the frequent passer-by. Pre-breakfast sun-rise game viewing-drive to see leopard, cheater, lions and other cuts hunting. This is the best time to spot the cats family when making a kill for their breakfast/lunch as the sun rises-up. Back to the camp for your full breakfast before departing with an en-route game viewing-drive as you leave Mara region to Nairobi. Break for lunch at Nanyuki.
